Slowly

I would capture the leaves
As they fall
To save them the hard fate
Of touching a cold
Unwelcoming earth

I am ridiculous.

Why should I seek to stop such things?

Anyway

The unwelcoming earth
Refuses to take the leaves

The leaves must make their way inside

Slowly,

In time

With their own disintegration.

That is progress. Growth.
It is also letting go. Dying.

It is the only way.

You are not being ridiculous, just protective and concerned. Decently written. Keep them coming!!!

What a profound poem .. you are right of course, like the stomach digesting certain foods, mother nature is no different. She take things into her body at her own speed. Bravo Sandy!

I think we are the impatient ones. Not Mother Nature.

I enjoyed this piece. I love the exploration of the leaves and life and death. Ridiculous? No.

I wrote a poem called "The Fall" that explored the death of leaves as if they represented the passing on of individuals. I'd love to know your thoughts.

So true. With regard to inevitability, acceptance is the key. ;) Now there may be denial, possibly some delay, but like leaves (and paper money) we all rot someday.

Hi!
It's been a long time since I came here last time.
How' ve you been?
by the way I like the poem.
Because I sometime feel down with some reason.
it's hard to feel down.
but sometimes feeling down, that's why I can
find out joyful and happy life.

So is life Sandy. Some lives out there are like the leaves. They fell on the ground, unwanted. They could not fend themselves and are left to rot themselves on the ground, to die, to decompose.
