One Single Impression: Desert

High tide strokes this dry place
In secret time with itself

Sweeping every story into the sea

This makes me think one could either have a clean sweep and start anew or just be stuck in the same place not giving credit to the happenings of life. Hmmmmm

I saw the Shell Seekers last night on TV. I mention it because it was one of those books that has stayed with me — regrets, lost loves, lost lives. The ocean is a huge part of it. And your poem is so powerful for me. Lost stories are lost lives and lost loves. This is going to be a tough week for poetry reading.

Ah! A high tide . . . streams in the desert. That day will yet arrive.

Lovely post.

What this says to me is that when our emotions flow our tears wash all sorrow away, like the ebbing of the tide. Just lovely, Sandy. Thank you.

This is not a criticism by any means, but I find myself torn as to whether I view the tide as a soother or a disruptive force.

"High tide strokes this dry place..." I love the use of the word "strokes," Sandy! Have a wonderful weekend! :D

An exquisite concept exquisitely expressed. So sensual and lovely, sad and comforting both.

So the dry place is the desert?
Or could the vast sea be the desert?
Pretty Yin-Yang. I like it!

I like the idea of a new story with every tide. Reminds me of all the lives lived in the same spot on earth, but not connected at all.

Very good. I like the thought of every story being swept out to sea. Perhaps I have a past I'd like to hide!

Sandy, what a beautiful picture of the once sea painted canyons of the desert walls and their secrets swept away. Beautiful, this really moved me.

And all those stories perhaps to be washed up on another shore. We all share so many of the same stories.

Love the soft silken sounds of "s" in this poem.

Just beautiful!

I find this very evocative. There is a whole world in there.

What an unexpected image created in your haiku … linking ocean tides with desert sand … wrapping it all with ‘tales’ untold. I love it! Sorry to be visiting so late but I’m happy I didn’t miss this one.
Hugs and blessings,
