I love how you chose jays: they are raucous, love to have fun (love to squabble!!), and are great entertainment. So are redwing blackbirds, my favorites. I really like this prompt because I really need some laughter right about now.

like everyone else, I like the last line the best

The sense of freedom is delightful here. It has a strong narrative voice thanks to the declaration in the last line, which so many have alluded to.

Sandy, I really like the link between freedom and flight. Your haiku was the inspiration for mine, Echo.

Sandy, truly lovely haiku: "But laughing about freedom." Aren't we lucky to have the freedom we have here in the good ol' US of A? :)

That last line is perfect.

And the thing about those loud-mouthed jays is that they seem to be almost laughing . . .

like juxtaposed oxymorons
caged freedom
the dreams of an insomniac

truth
as everything else
has an opposite
from which breaks free
the spirit!

its' flight
in all languages
means 'liberty'!

My Daughter was a blue jay for halloween in the first grade! I can still see her staring in the mirror immatating their song! She sang with such a happy spirit that day. I was laughing then, and I am feeling the laughter with this!
Thanks for this!

Sandy, quite delightful. I love hearing those blue jays. (Except when they're going after the cat's food.)

I thought the link chain would just keep going, and going. Adds a bit of laughter by medium. :)

always about choice
not what happens but how we
each choose to respond

I love the imagery in your 'Laughter' piece this week. Thanks for your quick and supportive response to my offering yesterday.

The last line stands out for me....as it seems to for a lot of others! The whole poem conveys the image of blue skies for me. Really like it!
