Apocalypse

When winter is new
Silence follows snow
And it is lovely:
The peaceful winter watering fades into quiet grey
And we rest.
But not now. No,
The earth is restless in its sleep
And the crows are here to tell us about it:
Snow stops and crows start
With the song that says
End of peace, end of quiet, end of stillness, end of darkness.
End it! End it! End it!
That's what the crows say
From the wet branches of the trees
That refuse the cold of winter and shrug off
All those heavy inches of winter.
Crows are loud enough
To break the cloud ceiling and pull the sun through
And summon the blue skies
In a bright canopy that keeps in the weak heat
Of dawn.
"Wake up and feed us, earth! We are hungry."
That's what the crows say,
And I like their songs very much.

"The peaceful winter watering fades into quiet gray ... " I love that line! This is an excellent poem. You obviously channel the muse whenever you write verse -:)

This poem made me recall yesterday when the neighborhood crows were playing, tumbling with each other in the winds.

They have been quite noisy the past few days. Now I know why. :)

Spring fever and spring's rebirth through the crow. Ah yes, let's have the life of a fading winter. Yes indeed!

I like this poem very much. I'm not ready to appreciate the crows sentiment yet, but give me a few weeks!

I found you through Poets Who Blog.
